Vietnam Temporary Residence Card for related foreigners

Foreigners who already have a Vietnam Temporary Residence Card (TRC) may be interested in applying for a Vietnam Temporary Residence Card for relatives (parents, spouse, or children under 18 years old). Pursuant to the Law on entry, exit, transit, residence of foreigners in Vietnam, if the holder of a Temporary Residence Card wants to sponsor relatives to come to Vietnam, the recent passport and temporary residence card must be over 1 year of validation and they must also have a work permit in Vietnam and a sponsor company in Vietnam. In case of traveling with a family member, papers proving the relationship such as birth certificate, marriage registration, household registration book are needed.

Temporary residence card related cases

  • 5 years temporary residence card for investors;
  • Temporary residence card for foreigners with 2 year work permit validity;
  • Temporary residence card for foreigners whose spouses have a over 1 year TRC validity;
  • Children whose parent is a foreigner with a valid temporary residence card;
  • Cases of loss and gone or damage;
  • Foreigners who are exempt from work permits;
  • Extension of expired temporary residence card;

Who can apply for a Vietnam temporary residence card

  • Members of a limited liability company with two or more members;
  • Owner of a one-member limited liability company;
  • Member of the Board of Directors of a joint stock company;
  • Foreign lawyers have been licensed by the Ministry of Justice to work in accordance with the Vietnamese law;
  • Foreigners with work permits, working in different types of foreign enterprises, representative offices of foreign companies;
  • Experts, students and trainees who are working and studying in national programs and projects signed between ministries and approved by the Government;
  • Accompanying relative (father, mother, wife, husband, children under 18 years old of the resident card holder);

Before applying for a Vietnam temporary residence card (TRC)

  • The validity of the temporary residence card is shorter than passport at least 30 days;
  • Temporary residence cards NG3, LV1, LV2, DT, DH has no more than 5 year validity;
  • The NN1, NN2, TT temporary residence cards have no more than 03 year validity;
  • The LD, PV1 temporary residence card is valid for no more than 2 years;
  • Expired temporary residence cards can be extended;
  • Temporary residence card is only issued to foreign investors, shareholders named in the investment license or business registration certificate in Vietnam. It is also granted to foreigners who are a wage earner anywhere in the territory of Vietnam.

Required documents to receive Vietnam temporary residence card for foreigners involved

A temporary residence card will not be issued if the applicant’s passport is valid for less than one year and the validity of the residence card will always be at least one month shorter than the person’s passport validity.

  • The notarized copy of the legal entity dossier of the guaranteed agency, organization or enterprise applying for the temporary residence card, depending on each specific case, may the following documents be provided:
    + Investment certificate; Certificate of business registration; Representative office establishment license; Subsidiaries (including written notification of activity);
    + Seal registration certificate; Certificate of tax code registration certificate (if any);
  • The written request for temporary residence card (form NA6) must include the signature and seal of the company legal representative;
  • The foreign applicant’s information declaration (form NA8) must be signed by the applicant;
  • Notarized copy of work permit or work permit exemption paper;
  • Notarized copy of temporary residence card;

For relatives, please provide

  • Original passport of a relative;
  • Two (2) passport sized photos (2cm x3cm);
  • Certificates of Family Relations such as Marriage Certificate (husband / wife), Birth Certificate (children / parents). These documents must be consular legalized and translated into Vietnamese;
  • The relative’s visa must be still valid and the TT visa;
  • Proof of residence registration certified by local police;

Please note that in case of relative accompany, there must be documents proving the relationship such as birth certificate, marriage registration, household registration book (these documents must be consular legalized and translated into Vietnamese language, except for cases exempted from consular legalization under the provisions of Article 9 of the Government’s Decree No. 111/2011 / ND-CP dated December 5, 2011 on consular certification and legalization.)

Processing Time

Processing time is from 05 – 07 working days from the receiving date of complete application
