Vietnam to start carrying out the same visa procedures like before COVID-19 from March 15

On February 15, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam conducted a meeting discussing plans to reopen international tourism in the context of flexible, safe adaptation and effective control of the pandemic. At the meeting, the authorities discussed detailed preparation for reopening tourism from March 15.

Visa exemption and procedures are back to normal since March 15

Accordingly, Vietnam will stop applying restrictive procedures on entry visa issuance. Therefore, international tourists are allowed to enter Vietnam under the normal regulations as before the pandemic.

Previously, Vietnam exempted visas unilaterally for 13 countries and bilaterally for 88 countries/territories. However, due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the Government has issued a resolution to stop implementing visa exemption as normal.

Under new normal conditions, ministries will stop applying restrictive measures on visa issuance and carry out the same as before the pandemic, including issuing visa, e-visa, unilateral and bilateral visa exemption.

The preparation of Vietnam for reopening international tourism

Since the 4th quarter of 2021, 9 provinces and cities of Vietnam have experimented to host international tourists. It is reported that there were around 9000 visitors coming to Vietnam since then.

At the moment, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has allowed all eligible localities to welcome international tourists visiting Vietnam.

From March 15, 2022, Vietnam will dismiss these regulations to welcome the coming back of international tourists. Instead, Vietnam will still continue implementing the pandemic prevention and control solution, especially doing 5K anywhere, anytime.

Requirements for international tourists entering Vietnam since March 15

International tourists when coming to Vietnam do not have to register tours and routes as in the experimental period, but still need to fully meet the regulations of the Ministry of Health on vaccination. They must have negative test results before boarding (within 24 hours for rapid test method, 72 hours for RT-PCR method).

Visitors must also install at least one health management application of Vietnam and always turn on the app during their stay in Vietnam,…

International visitors entering Vietnam must pay a 30 USD insurance premium to get the insurance of 10,000 USD in case they have Covid-19 and need treatment in Vietnam.

Procedures for foreigners wishing to enter Vietnam from March 15

For international visitors entering Vietnam via air, anyone with suspected symptoms must undergo rapid testing at the airport. The other ones must go to their pre-registered accommodation and perform rapid testing or RT-PCR.

International visitors entering via land are tested Covid at the border gate before entry. All international visitors must continue medical monitoring within 14 days under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, and strictly implement 5K.
