This is to confirm you that as United Kingdom passport holder, vietnam visa on arrival is surely valid for you if you travel to Vietnam by airline.
然而, vietnam visa on arrival is quite different from others. It is required to apply online first to get the pre-approval letter issued by Vietnam Immigration Department. Once you get this letter via email, print out of this letter to check-in and get visa stamp at Vietnam airport. It means that there is no way for you to get Vietnam visa stamp in Thailand if you decide to use visa on arrival.
